IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • Tanzania is one of Africa’s most iconic safari destinations, offering extraordinary wildlife, dramatic landscapes, and world-famous national parks. From the endless plains of the Serengeti to the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater and the white-sand beaches of Zanzibar, Tanzania delivers a diverse and unforgettable African travel experience.
  • A safari in Tanzania places you at the heart of some of the continent’s greatest natural spectacles. The Serengeti National Park is the stage for the legendary Great Migration, where more than a million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles move across the plains in search of fresh grazing. This immense movement of wildlife attracts large predators such as lions, hyenas, and crocodiles, creating one of nature’s most dramatic wildlife events.
  • Tanzania is also home to remarkable geographic landmarks shaped by the Great Rift Valley, a vast geological feature that runs through much of East Africa. The country boasts several of Africa’s most significant natural features, including Mount Kilimanjaro, the continent’s highest peak, Lake Tanganyika, one of the deepest lakes in the world, and Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest lake.
  • Another highlight is the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the most remarkable wildlife areas in Africa. This enormous volcanic caldera contains a rich concentration of wildlife, offering exceptional game viewing within a unique and breathtaking landscape.
  • For travellers wishing to combine safari with relaxation, the island of Zanzibar, often called the “Spice Island,” offers idyllic beaches, turquoise waters, and a fascinating blend of African, Arab, and European cultural influences.
  • Together, these elements make Tanzania one of Africa’s most rewarding destinations for both first-time safari travellers and experienced explorers.
Tanzania offers some of Africa’s most celebrated safari locations, each providing unique landscapes and wildlife experiences.

Serengeti National Park
  • One of the most famous wildlife areas in the world, the Serengeti is known for its vast open plains and incredible wildlife populations. It is most famous for hosting the annual Great Migration.

Ngorongoro Crater
  • Often described as one of Africa’s natural wonders, this vast volcanic crater supports a dense concentration of wildlife including elephants, buffalo, lions, and the endangered black rhino.
  • Lake Manyara National Park
Located along the edge of the Great Rift Valley, Lake Manyara is known for its diverse habitats, birdlife, and the rare tree-climbing lions found in the area.

Olduvai Gorge
  • One of the most important paleoanthropological sites in the world, Olduvai Gorge has revealed fossil evidence of early human ancestors dating back millions of years.

Zanzibar Island
  • Zanzibar provides the perfect contrast to a safari adventure.
  • Visitors can explore the historic streets of Stone Town, relax on palm-fringed beaches, or enjoy the island’s rich cultural heritage and marine life.
BEST TIME TO TRAVEL

Tanzania experiences distinct dry and wet seasons, each offering different advantages depending on the type of safari experience travellers prefer.

Dry Season (June – October)

The dry season is widely considered the best time for wildlife viewing in Tanzania.

During these months:

  • Vegetation becomes thinner, making wildlife easier to spot.
  • Animals gather around rivers and water sources.
  • Conditions are ideal for game drives and photography

This period also coincides with key stages of the Great Migration, when large herds move through the northern Serengeti and towards Kenya’s Masai Mara.

Short Rains (October – December)
  • Short, unpredictable rains occur during this period. These showers are usually brief and often clear quickly, meaning they rarely disrupt safari activities. The landscape becomes greener and birdlife is particularly abundant.

Long Rains (March – May)
  • The main rainy season occurs between March and May. Heavy rainfall can make travel more challenging in some regions and certain camps or coastal resorts may temporarily close. However, this time of year offers lush scenery and fewer visitors.
