Planning Your Safari

Can IC Africa create a tailor-made safari?
  • Yes, at IC Africa we specialise in tailor-made safaris, allowing you to customise your destinations, lodges, and activities across Southern Africa, Eastern Africa, and Madagascar.
When is the best time to travel to Southern Africa?
  • The dry season (May–October) offers excellent wildlife viewing in regions such as Kruger, Hwange, and Etosha.

  • The green season (November–March) brings lush landscapes, exceptional birding, fewer crowds, and great value.
How far in advance should I book?
  • For peak travel periods (June–October and Christmas/New Year), we recommend booking 6–9 months in advance.

  • For shoulder and green seasons, availability can often be secured 3–4 months prior to travel.
How many days should I plan for a safari?
  • A well-paced safari typically ranges from 7 to 14 days. This allows enough time to experience multiple regions without feeling rushed, while still immersing yourself in each destination.
Can I combine multiple countries in one trip?
  • Yes, and this is often one of the most rewarding ways to experience the region.

  • Combining destinations such as South Africa, Botswana, and Zambia allows for a diverse and well-rounded safari — from iconic wildlife areas to remote, untouched landscapes.
Is there a minimum age on your safaris?
  • Age restrictions vary by lodge. Some properties welcome children from 6 years, while others are more suited to guests aged 12 and older. At IC Africa, we carefully match each itinerary to suit your family’s ages and travel preferences.

Destinations & Experience

Which countries does IC Africa operate in?
  • Our Southern Africa safaris often combine destinations such as South Africa, Botswana, and Zimbabwe.

  • In Eastern Africa, itineraries may include Kenya and Tanzania, while our Madagascar safaris are focused exclusively on exploring the island’s diverse regions.
What makes your safaris different?
  • Our focus is on meaningful, nature-led travel. We prioritise carefully selected lodges, experienced guides, and thoughtfully designed itineraries that allow you to slow down and truly connect with your surroundings — rather than simply moving from one highlight to the next.
What type of accommodation can I expect?
  • We work with a curated collection of lodges and camps, ranging from classic tented camps to high-end luxury lodges.

  • All are chosen for their location, comfort, and ability to offer an immersive experience in nature.
Will I see the Big Five?
  • Many of the regions we operate in are home to the Big Five, particularly areas like the Kruger National Park and the Okavango Delta.

  • While sightings can never be guaranteed, your chances are very high with experienced guides and well planned itineraries.

Safety & Health

Is it safe to travel in Africa?
  • Travel across destinations such as South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Madagascar, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Saint Helena Island is considered safe when standard travel precautions are followed.

  • As with any destination worldwide, we advise guests not to display valuables openly, to avoid walking alone at night, and to make use of hotel safety facilities.

  • Travelling with IC Africa ensures an added level of safety and support. For self-drive travellers, we recommend planning routes in advance and familiarising yourself with your destinations.

  • Africa is renowned for its warm hospitality, and you will find its people welcoming and attentive throughout your journey.
What do I need to know about Malaria?
  • Certain safari regions in Africa carry a risk of malaria, although it is generally seasonal and preventable.

  • The highest risk occurs during the rainy summer months (November to April), while the dry winter months (May to October) present a significantly lower risk.

  • Malaria is transmitted by mosquitoes, primarily active at night. We recommend wearing long sleeves and trousers after sunset, using insect repellent, and sleeping in protected or screened accommodation.

  • Before travelling, consult your doctor regarding appropriate anti-malaria medication. With the correct precautions, the risk remains very low.

  • Regions such as Kruger National Park, northern Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe carry moderate risk, while areas like the Eastern Cape and much of Namibia are considered malaria-free.
Do I need any vaccinations?
  • Requirements vary depending on your travel history and destinations.

  • In some cases, a yellow fever certificate may be required. We will guide you on this well in advance of your trip.

Travel Requirements

What visas do I need?
  • Visa requirements vary depending on the countries included in your itinerary. IC Africa will provide detailed visa guidance specific to your journey as part of your travel documentation.
How long should my passport be valid and how many pages do I need?
  • As a general guideline, your passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date and have 2–3 blank pages per country visited. We recommend confirming exact requirements with your local travel authority.
Will you advise me on paperwork before I fly?
  • Yes, once your booking is confirmed, IC Africa will provide a comprehensive pre departure pack. This includes visa guidance, health information, currency advice, packing recommendations, and important local contact details.
